The Labour Court recommended that Irish Ferries and the Federated Workers' Union Of Ireland accept a compromise increasing the company's offer to £175 for each clerical worker involved. The recommendation was signed on 1 February 1989. The union had sought the full £250 difference after ships' officers received that once-off payment. Irish Ferries had offered clerical staff £133.69 on a pro-rata basis. The Court found merit in both calculation methods and recommended the compromise.
