The Labour Court recommended that clean-up crew members at Halal Meat Packers (Ballyhaunis) Limited retain their shift allowance of time and one sixth. The recommendation was signed on 12 December 1988. The Irish Transport and General Workers’ Union had sought restoration of the allowance and an increase to time and one fifth after the company discontinued it. The company said the workers had been overpaid and it was considering how to reclaim the money. It did not attend the hearing. The Court considered the union’s submission and recommended retaining the previous allowance, without the requested increase.
