Labour Court recommends cancelling production warnings at Bemico

In 1988, the Labour Court recommended cancelling production-related warnings issued to three workers at Bemico (Ireland) Limited. It also recommended that a sick pay and pension scheme follow an agreement on plant efficiency; it did not recommend changing holiday payments made in accordance with the Holidays (Employees) Act, 1973. The recommendation was signed 11 November 1988. Irish Transport And General Workers' Union challenged the warnings, sought a scheme and disputed public holiday arrangements for seasonal workers. The Court said future warnings for the same conduct could be valid and recommended that the parties try to agree efficiency changes before the proposed scheme was introduced.
