The Labour Court recommended that the Irish Transport And General Workers' Union accept the North Western Health Board's revised sick-pay arrangements for non-officer staff. The recommendation was signed on 26 May 1988. The union said some employees received less than their net take-home pay while on sick leave and that delays in social-welfare payments caused hardship. The Board said it changed the scheme after reviewing expenditure and because some employees received more money in hand while sick than when working. The Court considered the management change not unreasonable. It also recommended that the Board and the union meet to discuss ways to ease hardship caused by delayed social-welfare payments.
