Labour Court recommends severance allowance for two Synthetic Industries workers

The Labour Court recommended that Synthetic Industries Limited pay a severance allowance to two workers under the agreed package. The recommendation was signed on 26 May 1988. The workers had already received statutory redundancy lump sums after the Employment Appeals Tribunal found in their favour. They then sought severance payments, which the company resisted, saying their service had been interrupted by layoffs and the agreed fund was exhausted. The Court considered the submissions and the particular circumstances of the workers' service before recommending payment under the agreed package. The Irish Transport And General Workers' Union had brought the claim on their behalf.
