In 1988, the Labour Court found that additional goods-handling duties fell within a checker/storeman’s conditions of employment and said he should perform them. It did not recommend compensation. The recommendation was signed on 29 April 1988. The Federated Workers' Union Of Ireland had sought an increase from £152 to £160 a week for a worker at Irish Roofing Felts’ Finglas plant. It argued the extra handling increased workload and responsibility, raised safety concerns and breached a procedural agreement. The company said the work fell within his existing duties.
