The Labour Court did not recommend conceding a claim for compensation after overtime was stopped for two porters at the Western Health Board. The recommendation was signed on 25 April 1988. The Irish Transport And General Workers' Union said the porters had worked regular laboratory overtime since 1973 and relied on it as part of their usual earnings. The Board said it had cut non-essential overtime across departments to help maintain employment during budget reductions. The Court cited that employment policy and the absence of compensation in similar cases as reasons not to recommend the claim.
