The Labour Court recommended implementing Meadow Meats Limited's proposals for changes to maintenance staffing and working practices. The recommendation was signed on 25 April 1988. The Irish Transport And General Workers' Union objected to the staffing plan and said the maintenance incentive scheme did not reflect increased plant and equipment. Meadow Meats argued that maintenance efficiency was low and the changes were needed to control costs. The Court recommended that the union use its own work-study engineer to monitor the proposals alongside a qualified company-side engineer if necessary. Specific difficulties could be referred back to the Court for a further recommendation.
