In 1988, the Labour Court did not recommend conceding the Irish Transport and General Workers' Union and Union of Construction Allied Trades and Technicians' £1,500 relocation allowance claim for 12 Office of Public Works workers after the National Monuments depot moved from Kanturk to Mallow. The recommendation was signed on 12 April 1988. The workers transferred under protest. The Court accepted that some workers faced inconvenience and extra expense, but cited insufficient nearby work to justify retaining a depot in Kanturk and public-service financial constraints. It recommended that management keep the position under review and look for ways to reduce the inconvenience.
