In 1988, the Labour Court said it could not determine whether allegations against a part-time cleaner at Trinity College Dublin were substantiated. It considered management had acted reasonably and found no grounds to recommend compensation. The recommendation was signed on 11 April 1988. A colleague's £1 note went missing and was found in the worker's purse; she denied taking it. A jury could not agree on a verdict at her theft trial, and the State dropped the charges before a retrial.
