In 1988, the Labour Court recommended accepting Isaac Beckett Limited (In Liquidation)’s liability for wage arrears owed to five workers and adjusting the pre-redundancy rates used to recalculate their redundancy payments. The recommendation was signed on 7 April 1988. The Irish Distributive And Administrative Trade Union estimated the arrears at £8,096 and said the workers’ statutory entitlements had been calculated using weekly rates £22 to £32 too low. The company said it could not pay because of its financial position and that the liquidator had been unable to sell assets. The Court noted that the company had accepted liability and committed to paying if its premises were sold.
