In 1988, the Labour Court did not recommend an increase in the follow-up demonstrators’ rate at Burlington Sportswear Fabrics Limited. The recommendation was signed on 10 March 1988. The Irish Transport And General Workers' Union sought a higher allowance for ten employees who trained colleagues at the Tullamore plant, arguing that the work saved the company costs and involved sophisticated machinery. Burlington Sportswear Fabrics Limited said the role was not full-time instruction and the existing rate was fair. The Court found the union had not established a case for an increase.
