The Labour Court recommended the Federated Workers' Union Of Ireland's interpretation of a pay agreement covering former cooks at George Bell (Ship Management) Limited. The recommendation was dated 24 February 1988. After the cooks' roles were discontinued, seven who stayed on as general purpose seamen kept their higher salaries on a red-circled basis. The company later stopped adjustment payments, saying they had been applied in error. The Court considered the union's interpretation reasonable in light of the negotiations.
