The Labour Court recommended that 18 Aer Lingus craftsmen receive £200 or five lieu days each in a dispute over annual leave rostered duty allowance. The recommendation was signed on 25 February 1988. The National Engineering and Electrical Trade Union, Amalgamated Engineering Union, Electrical Trade Union and Automobile General Engineering and Mechanical Operatives' Trade Union sought parity with tradesmen in Aer Lingus's Maintenance and Engineering Production Department. They said workers on seven-day shifts received less than colleagues on five-day shifts. Aer Lingus said the group's pay and conditions compared favourably with similar workers and warned that extending the claim could increase costs for other groups. The Court recommended that future allowances be based on average shift earnings across both departments, with the change negotiated at the next allowance increase. It also recommended implementing Aer Lingus's offer from the date it was made, alongside the payment or leave days for each claimant.
