In 1988, the Labour Court recommended that the Order Of St. John Of God concede the Irish Transport And General Workers' Union's claim for union dues to be deducted from pay at source at St Mary's Mental Handicap Centre, Drumcar. The recommendation was signed on 18 February 1988. The union had raised the issue in 1980 and again in 1986. It argued that deductions were common and efficient, and that the Centre had arranged deductions for other contributions. The Order did not attend or submit a position to the Court.
