In 1988, the Labour Court did not recommend that A.C.O.T. concede the Irish Transport And General Workers' Union's claim for compensation over lost overtime earnings at Mellows College, Athenry. The recommendation was signed on 18 February 1988. The union said 13 workers had relied on regular overtime for years and had lost weekly hours and earnings after cuts took effect in June 1987. A.C.O.T. cited budget reductions and its difficult financial position.
