In 1988, the Labour Court recommended that Dublin Cargo Equipment Limited not concede the Amalgamated Engineering Union and Union of Motor Trade, Technical and Industrial Employees’ claim to equalise pay for six craftsmen. The recommendation was signed on 18 February 1988. Five craftsmen earned £206.95 a week and one earned £214.88. The Court treated the higher rate as red-circled and did not recommend conceding the claim. On the separate request to rotate craftsmen between North Wall and South Bank, it was not satisfied that there was a major earnings disparity; if one arose, it recommended a common Sunday standby roster under the Productivity Bonus Scheme.
Labour Court rejects craftsmen’s pay parity claim and sets Sunday roster condition for transfers
