In 1988, the Labour Court recommended that CA Parsons Limited pay about 43 workers the first phase of the National Recovery Programme terms from 1 January 1988. The recommendation was signed on 15 February 1988. The Federated Workers’ Union of Ireland, Amalgamated Union of Engineering Workers, Irish Women Workers’ Union and Manufacturing Science Finance Union had sought a 27th-round wage increase. The Court accepted that the company was not in a position to make firm arrangements for the future or meet the pay round from its due date in November 1987. It recommended payment from January 1988 to sustain good relations.
