The Labour Court issued a binding recommendation on implementing its earlier dispute decision involving C.B. Packaging Limited and the Irish Print Union. It was signed on 5 February 1988. The Court recommended accepting the company's proposed monetary levels. Redundancies were to begin on a voluntary basis, with seniority in the Print Department used if there were too few volunteers. Redundancy terms based on £750 per year of service were to be paid when redundancies occurred. The company's proposed retainer was to be paid in three equal instalments: one on termination, one on 1 July 1988 and one on 1 January 1989. Any redundant employee asked to work during 1988 was to receive the appropriate rate of pay.
