The Labour Court recommended that Securicor Ireland Limited and the Irish Transport And General Workers' Union accept a composite hourly rate of £4.15 for cash-in-transit workers. The recommendation was signed on 28 January 1988. Securicor Ireland Limited proposed replacing basic pay and overtime with a composite rate. The union opposed a reduction in earnings, sought compensation and proposed £5 an hour if such a rate was introduced. The Court said workers doing fewer than 55 hours a week would benefit financially under the proposal and that more hours would be available to workers seeking them. The Court added that, if the proposal was not accepted, recruitment of additional staff to reduce overtime should not be impeded.
