In 1988, the Labour Court did not recommend concession of the Bakery And Food Workers' Amalgamated Union's claim against Gateaux Limited for compensation for three bakers' lost overtime. The union estimated the loss at £1,275 per baker after a customer required the product to be baked in a travelling oven. The recommendation was signed on 29 January 1988. The Court said the oven was an alternative to likely loss of the product and that the change was not part of a cost-benefit rationalisation plan.
