Labour Court links conditional payment to craft unions' cooperation

In 1988, the Labour Court recommended that Unifi Textured Yarns (Europe)Limited's craft workers stop refusing to complete stores requisition forms and recommended a payment equivalent to the retrospection received by ITGWU members if the craft unions cooperated with their agreement. The recommendation, signed on 20 January 1988, followed a dispute involving Electrical Trades Union and Amalgamated Engineering Union over the terms of separate comprehensive agreements for craft workers and ITGWU members. The company said the refusal breached the agreement. The Court found that it did and noted dissatisfaction among craft workers about the difference in settlements.
