In 1988, the Labour Court recommended that the Irish Transport And General Workers' Union accept Aer Rianta's offer of £1,500 for each trimmer and £750 for each boilerman during the one-person summer boilerhouse operation. The recommendation was signed on 12 January 1988. The union had sought higher compensation, including payment for lost overtime, citing added responsibilities, safety concerns and other losses. Aer Rianta said an independent assessment found the boilerhouse safe for one-person duties, the change would last no more than five months, and the proposed payments fairly covered losses other than overtime. The Court considered the company's offer fair and reasonable and recommended its acceptance.
