The Labour Court did not recommend changing TNT Ipec (Ireland) Ltd.’s redundancy-payment formula for six workers made redundant after depot closures in Sligo and Waterford. The recommendation was signed on 11 January 1988. The Irish Transport And General Workers' Union sought two months’ pay per year of service, plus a pro-rata amount for compulsory redundancies. The existing formula, agreed by the parties in 1985, provided £600 for the first year and £1,000 for each subsequent year, inclusive of statutory entitlement. The Court cited the company’s circumstances in declining to recommend an amendment.
