In 1987, the Labour Court did not recommend conceding the Irish Transport and General Workers' Union's claim for a £300 lump sum for seven clerical and administrative workers at Beckman Instruments. The recommendation was signed on 1 December 1987. The union had accepted a 4% pay increase but sought the same £300 lump sum received by workers represented by the Staff Association. The company offered £260 to each union member, saying the same terms had been offered to all groups and the Staff Association had chosen to divide its lump sum equally among members. The Court cited the same terms offered to all groups in declining to recommend concession of the claim.
