The Labour Court did not recommend the Irish Congress Of Trade Unions Group's claim to separate sick leave arising from workplace accidents from ordinary sick leave for state industrial employees. The recommendation was signed on 18 November 1987. The group represented about 5,500 industrial workers and argued that leave taken after a workplace accident could exhaust sick leave available for later illness. Government Departments opposed extending the civil service arrangement, citing differences in sick-pay terms and financial constraints. The Court considered it inappropriate to apply DPS Circular 1/82 to the Sick-Pay Scheme for Industrial Employees and did not recommend conceding the claim.
