In 1987, the Labour Court recommended that Sligo Corporation grant its telephonist the same salary-scale terms already conceded by Sligo County Council. The recommendation was signed on 12 November 1987, following a claim by the Local Government and Public Services Union. The corporation said it was prepared to concede the claim but was bound by the Minister for the Environment's decision on the terms of the increase. The union argued the telephonist should receive the same terms as her county council counterpart. The Court said there was no good reason to differentiate between the telephonists and recommended the corporation grant its telephonist the county council terms.
