In 1987, the Labour Court considered E. I. Company Limited's redundancy terms reasonable and did not recommend conceding the Irish Transport and General Workers' Union's claim to change how compensation was calculated. The recommendation was signed on 29 October. The union sought to include all pay elements in the company's enhanced redundancy calculation, which paid four weeks' basic pay per year of service plus statutory compensation. E. I. Company said its terms were reasonable given the redundancies linked to the closure of its TV-gun product line and its business difficulties.
