In 1987, the Labour Court recommended that Western Health Board pay a craftsman's mate half his net earnings loss during a suspension. The recommendation was signed on 22 October. The Irish Transport and General Workers' Union (Galway Branch) sought compensation after the worker was suspended for refusing a transfer to boilerhouse duties. The worker understood the move to be ongoing; the Board said it was temporary. The Court found a misunderstanding over whether the transfer was temporary or permanent.
