In 1987, the Labour Court did not recommend concession of the Irish Distributive and Administrative Trade Union's claim for pay parity at Quinnsworth, Ballina. The recommendation was signed on 19 October 1987. The union sought parity with the company's rates in Sligo, arguing that workers in Ballina and Sligo did identical work under identical conditions. Ballina Quinnsworth said its rates followed local distributive-trade negotiations and that parity would affect other employers in the town. The Court cited the history of negotiations in the trade and in the company when declining the claim.
