In 1987, the Labour Court did not recommend the Post Office Officials' Association's claim for equal pay between telephonists and senior telephonists at Telecom Eireann. The recommendation was signed on 16 October 1987. The Association argued the grades performed the same work for the same hours. Telecom Eireann said the pay structure arose from an agreement with the recognised union, the Postal and Telecommunications Workers' Union. The Court cited that agreement in declining to recommend the claim.
