In 1987, the Labour Court did not recommend restoring the former working system or compensating for lost overtime for about 200 painters and carpenters employed by Dublin Corporation. The recommendation was signed on 14 October 1987. The Irish National Painters and Decorators Trade Union and the Union of Construction Allied Trades and Technicians sought restoration of overtime for scaffolding work in the Corporation's Housing Maintenance Section. Dublin Corporation had ended the arrangement in May 1987, citing its financial situation. The Court said more direct consultation with affected workers would serve better industrial relations.
