In 1987, the Labour Court did not recommend conceding the National Union Of Woodworkers And Woodcutting Machinists' claims against Dublin Corporation for compensation for lost overtime or an amended daily allowance. The recommendation was signed on 14 October 1987. The claim concerned about 14 carpenters in the Corporation's housing maintenance section. The Corporation had ended overtime for scaffolding work in May 1987, moving it into the normal working day because of financial difficulties. The union said the loss of overtime caused hardship and sought a £1.20 daily allowance. The Court said more direct consultation with affected workers would serve better industrial relations.
