In 1987, the Labour Court recommended changes to bonus treatment for six supervisors at Telecommunications Limited, while declining to recommend the union's claim to extend their salary scale by three increments. The recommendation was signed on 8 October 1987. The Irish Transport And General Workers' Union sought to have bonuses consolidated with basic salary for pension purposes and to extend the supervisory scale. The Court recommended calculating future pay increases on gross salary including bonus, but applying them to basic pay so the bonus remained frozen. It also recommended consolidating one tenth of the bonus into basic pay for pension purposes each 1 August from 1988 until full consolidation. The Court did not recommend conceding the salary-scale claim.
