In 1987, the Labour Court recommended acceptance of a negotiated wage package in the dispute between Initial Services Limited and the Marine Port And General Workers' Union. It did not recommend conceding the union's additional claims. The recommendation was signed on 8 October 1987. The union's 26th wage-round claim covered pay, female operatives' rates, bonuses, allowances and holiday and part-time entitlements for about 70 workers at outlets in Cabra and Clondalkin. The parties agreed package terms in July, but the union wanted a wash-house bonus issue and entitlements for a part-time worker referred separately. Initial Services said the settlement was a complete package. The package included a 4% increase for 12 months, a weekly wash-house payment and a productivity bonus for full-time female factory operatives. The Court recommended the package as a settlement of the claim.
