In 1987, the Labour Court recommended an hourly rate of £2.57 for a restaurant worker at Graham O'Sullivan Limited, with a further 5p an hour from 1 February 1988. The recommendation was signed on 9 October 1987. The Irish National Union Of Vintners', Grocers And Allied Trades Assistants sought improved wages and conditions for the worker, employed at the company's restaurant in the Artane Castle shopping complex. It said her rate had risen to £2.40 after a May wage review, but her weekly hours had fallen from 30 to 23.5. The company said a wage review applied across its workforce and that making an exception was inappropriate. The Court recommended that the worker's hours be restored to 30 a week as well as increasing her pay. The recommendation followed a hearing on 7 September 1987.
