Labour Court recommends one year’s shift premium for Texaco worker

The Labour Court recommended compensation equivalent to one year’s shift premium at current rates for a worker transferred from Texaco (Ireland) Limited’s closed Castlebar depot to day work in Galway. The recommendation, concerning a claim by the Irish Transport and General Workers' Union (Itgwu), was signed on 24 September 1987. The union said the move reduced the worker’s earnings and affected annual leave and pension entitlement. Texaco said the worker knew the Galway role involved day work and had other options, including shift work in Limerick.
