In 1987, the Labour Court recommended that Acco Limited's offer to workers be amended to a 4.50% pay increase over 12 months plus £100 for each worker. It recommended that the workers accept the amended offer. The recommendation was signed on 21 September 1987. The Irish Transport and General Workers' Union had sought a 10% rise. It argued that Acco was profitable and workers had contributed through co-operation and productivity. Acco cited competitive markets and the need to control costs.
