The Labour Court recommended two 2.5% pay increases for Navan Carpets Limited's 38 white-collar workers. The recommendation on the Irish Transport and General Workers' Union's 26th wage-round claim was signed on 21 August 1987. The first increase was to take effect from 1 April 1987 and the second from 1 November, with the agreement ending on 31 March 1988. The union sought a 6% rise, saying workers had made sacrifices under earlier wage rounds. Navan Carpets said it was loss-making and faced severe competition, and that higher wage costs could put jobs at risk.
