The Labour Court recommended two 2.5% pay increases for Navan Carpets Limited's general workers, following claims by the Irish Transport and General Workers' Union on behalf of about 170 workers. The recommendation was signed on 21 August 1987. The increases were to take effect from 1 April and 1 November 1987. The Court did not recommend an increase in service pay or a change to the shift-premium calculation. The union had sought a 10% rise, higher service pay and shift premiums based on actual pay; Navan Carpets said it was loss-making and could not afford higher wage costs without risking jobs.
