Labour Court rejects transport union's claim to replace Ennis Handling Systems truck

The Labour Court did not recommend conceding the Irish Transport and General Workers' Union's claim for Ennis Handling Systems to replace a truck taken off the road in 1986. It recommended that the company and union negotiate compensation for losses the driver may have incurred after losing his driving duties. The recommendation was signed on 10 August 1987. The driver was reassigned to general operative duties at the same rate of pay. The union said he had lost £50 a week in overtime and travel expenses and wanted his driving role restored. Ennis Handling Systems said business levels did not justify keeping the truck and that alternative arrangements were more efficient.
