Labour Court recommends revised pension terms for Rents & Co. supervisor

The Labour Court recommended revised pension terms for an office supervisor at Rents & Co. who had worked there since 1964. The Association of Scientific, Technical and Managerial Staffs sought her inclusion in the company scheme from 1969. The recommendation was signed on 5 August 1987. The union said she had repeatedly sought inclusion and had not opted out. Rents & Co. said she had not taken up the option to join and that doing so now would be prohibitively expensive. The Court found no direct evidence to resolve whether she had been excluded from the scheme in 1969. Taking account of her long service, it recommended benefits payable at age 60, an option to work until 65 with five years of equivalent pensionable service added, immediate eligibility for death-in-service benefit, and a 5% employee contribution until retirement.
