In 1987, the Labour Court recommended that Gouldings Chemicals Ltd amend its severance proposal to provide £375 per year of service where appropriate, and that the workers concerned accept the amended proposal. The recommendation was signed on 30 July 1987. The Court said the union's suggested terms were beyond the company's means and an early decision on its proposals was needed to support continued operation of the plant in Cork. The hearing was held on 16 July.
