The Labour Court recommended that workers at Shamrock Castors & Wheels Limited accept the company’s offer of two 3% pay increases for the 26th wage round, with assembly operators’ pay rising to £108 from 31 December 1987. The recommendation was signed on 9 July 1987. The Irish Transport and General Workers' Union had sought a 10% increase for about 40 workers, saying company pay rates were low compared with other industries in the Sligo area. Shamrock Castors said a 6% increase was reasonable given its trading position and ability to compete. The Court recommended the company’s offer of 3% from 1 January and a further 3% from 1 July be accepted, with the assembly operators’ rate change taking effect before any further general increase.
