In 1987, the Labour Court did not recommend conceding the IRISH TRANSPORT AND GENERAL WORKERS' UNION’s claim for an on-call roster for nine general operatives at NITRIGIN EIREANN TEORANTA’s Marino Point plant. The recommendation was signed on 19 June 1987. The union said call-outs had increased and a roster would give workers more predictable time away from work while ensuring cover. Management argued that its existing call-as-required system had proved adequate and that the workers already received a generous call-out package. The Court accepted management’s argument that a roster was unnecessary for the operatives.
