In 1987, the Labour Court did not recommend upgrading a worker at Dataproducts (Dublin) Limited from grade 2.2 to grade 2.3. The recommendation was signed on 11 June 1987. The Amalgamated Union of Engineering Workers (TASS) argued that after automation reduced her original workload, she took on planners’ work. The company said her duties remained basic clerical work and that planner roles required different analytical and mathematical skills. The Court found the work did not merit upgrading.
