Labour Court rejects Bord Gais Eireann pay parity claim

By Gráinne Nolan

Historic decision · Decision date:

Place: no local area assigned from the source.

The Labour Court did not recommend the Amalgamated Union of Engineering Workers (T.A.S.S.) claim for E.S.B. pay parity for Bord Gais Eireann draughtsmen, supervisors and clerical and administrative staff. The recommendation was signed on 10 June 1987. The union argued that the workers' duties and responsibilities had grown and that other Bord Gais Eireann grades had pay parity with, or better pay than, the E.S.B. The Court said Bord Gais Eireann's wage structure had developed through its own negotiating process and did not recommend conceding the claim.
