The Labour Court recommended that the Irish Transport and General Workers' Union accept Hofnar Ireland Limited's revised pay offer, amended to include a pro-rata increase in bonus payments. The recommendation was signed on 5 June 1987. The union had sought a 10% increase on basic rates, bonus and service pay for about 78 general operatives. It said workers rejected the company's offer partly because it did not include increases to bonus and service pay. Hofnar Ireland Limited cited falling cigar sales, a loss in 1986 and employment pressures.
