The Labour Court did not recommend the Post Office Officials' Association's claim for equal urgent-relief sign-out rules for day and night telephonists at Telecom Eireann. The recommendation was signed on 5 June 1987. Night operators had to sign out and back in for urgent reliefs, while day operators did not. Telecom Eireann said sign-out arrangements maintained controlled attendance at switchboards and had been agreed with the Postal and Telecommunications Workers' Union. The Court said management had informed it that the union representing most employees did not want the rules changed.
