Labour Court recommends doubling allowance period after target changes

In 1987, the Labour Court recommended extending an allowance for two Ballinamore Textiles Limited employees from eight weeks to 16 weeks after work targets were changed. The recommendation was signed on 8 May 1987. The union said the original targets had not been shown to be incorrect and sought their restoration. The company said equipment and methods had changed over time, making the targets too loose. The Court said high earnings alone did not justify changing targets that were correct when set, but the later equipment and method changes warranted an earlier review.
